UPDATE:

Well, I didn’t get chosen for the State Fair, but this work will be displayed through Labor Day at The Hopkins Center for the Arts at their Salon 300 Show.  The opening reception is Saturday, August 22nd from 6-8pm.  Hopkins Center for the Arts is located on Main Street between 10th & 11th in Hopkins, Minnesota.

After this moring’s rehearsal, I drove over to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds and turned in my submission for this year’s Fine Arts division. Now I get to wait for the decision of the judges to see if my piece will be accepted. What do you think?

Photograph was taken this past winter at about 11pm after an evening rehearsal. Temp was about 20 degrees farenheit and was our first cold night of the year. I developed this as a negative which gave it this cool blue effect – the actual piece is then printed on metallic paper which I think best represents the building’s architecture.

It was a beautiful fall day. It was also our 6th wedding anniversary, so my husband Bob and our dear friend Brenda took a drive out to the countryside.

In Minnesota, we’re not really known for our wines, in fact, most people are suprised to find out that we actually have wineries. Case in point – Alexis Bailey Winery. Located in Hastings, and on the Minnesota Wine Trail, Alexis Bailey has been creating award winning wines for over 30 years with the tag line, “Where the grapes can suffer.”

Brenda is from California and new to Minnesota having relocated here to work at the University of Minnesota as an Urban Geographer Professor. Eager to learn about her new home, we were looking forward to taking her here – this was the perfect time of year. Grapes were being harvested and you could go out and pick your own eating grapes to take home with you.

We got our glasses for the wine tasting, brought along some great cheese and crackers and settled in on the back deck to enjoy the atmosphere. On the wall above our table was a stunning piece of copper and pottery. The colors were blazing in the daylight and my camera was ready to take hold of what turned out to be some incredible images.

Wow – talk about a double header!  Not only do I have a Frank Stone Gallery opening reception, but the start of the NEMAA Fall Arts Show begins the same evening from 6-10pm.  Talk about a great date night!

So here’s the plan, either start at The Grain Belt Bottling House at 79 NE 13th Avenue and end up at Frank Stone Gallery at 1224 Second St. NE or vice versa.  Either way, you’re going to see some great art that night and have a wonderful time!

UPDATE: A great turnout for the opening of my new gallery show at Frank Stone Gallery this past Friday.  Thank you all for attending, and for those of you that couldn’t make it, the show is still running through Sunday, November 23rd. 

I am proud and please to announce that I will have a show this Fall at Frank Stone Gallery in Northeast Minneapolis.

Join me and the talented Otto Gotzsche as he showcases his turned wood bowls. 

The opening reception is Friday, November 14th from 5pm to 9pm.  Wine, tasty treats and great art all await you.  If you can’t make the reception for opening night, never fear!  The show is running November 13th-23rd.  Gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday 12-5.  Additional hours by appointment by calling Frank Stone Gallery at 612.617.9965.
