LISA DREW, digital artist

Lisa in France cutoutLisa Drew has chosen to see the camera as just the first step in a long process of seeking “illumination” through digital art. Never satisfied with the “presentation” of the cold lens, her interpretation can extend to manipulation, enhancement, reduction and experimentation.

Growing up in a family of visual artists, her father a floral designer, her mother an abstract painter, Lisa grew up fascinated by color, patterns, shape and interpretation. It is this fascination that permits Lisa to explore the “weltgeist” in the animate and the profane.

Her explorations include a desire to understand humanity through its architecture and find the moments of energy between the plane, the point and the curve.

In contrast to the energy of the intersection, she has also examined the relationship between color, light and form extant in the ebb and flow of hand-blown glass. Stained glass has also held her spellbound and she has traveled through much of France, Spain & Italy examining and portraying the energy of stained glass in the mighty cathedrals of Europe and America.

She has also used her digital explorations to search for the spirit of living things. Her portrayals sometimes evoke the same interplay of energy, form and light proposed by the Impressionists.

Lisa is also a classical singer with a background in Opera and early Music. She currently tours worldwide with the acclaimed and award winning vocal group, The Rose Ensemble and is the Alto Soloist in the Plymouth Congregational Church choir led by conductor Phillip Brunelle.
